I wanted a good old fashioned adventure story, preferably with a plucky heroine, and this definitely fit the bill. if I had read this when I was 10 or 11, I would have wanted to be Kel, but at my current age I was still cheering her on.
I'm a sucker for slightly mystical animal friendships, so I loved the bits with Peachblossom and the sparrow flock.

There is a scene early on that I felt was unnecessary and cruel. The rest was good.

Just as amazing as I remembered. I can so easily see why this was a childhood favorite. Keladry is quite the character, inspiring and strong and compassionate, while also being stubborn and smart. I just really like her. I can't wait to dip back into the rest of the series. It's been so long since I've read these books.

This was such a fun world to get into. I loved the adventure elements of the book and the relationships are main character formed. I had a hard time getting past the fact that she was ten… but I’m excited to see her growth throughout the rest of the series.
