I really loved this first instalment in this graphic novel series. I loved the artwork and all its pink tones. I loved the premise of a dystopian america that has been destroyed by an earthquake. The characters were amazing and I loved the relationships and the family dynamics of it all. I can't wait to see some of those relationships grow in the next instalment. I don't normally grow so attached to characters in graphic novels, especially first in series, however I found myself to be quite attached and emotional for these characters and I only want the best for them.
I cant wait to see where this one goes.

I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased opinion.
It's been eight years since an earthquake destroyed buildings and cities up and down the West Coast, changing life forever. Seventeen-year-old Virginia Crane lives with her dad and two younger brothers since their mom left shortly after the earthquake. However, when she receives a package for her birthday from her mom, all Ginny can think about is finding her mom, to find out what happened to her. Ginny sets out from home, determined to find answers.
I read this book in one sitting! The family dynamics drew me in to this graphic novel from the start. I liked the style of drawings. Pink and gray aren't colors I would have thought of to use for a graphic novel, but they worked perfectly in this one. I can't wait to find out what happens in the sequel and what life looks like across the country as they journey east!

Completely entertaining! Love the author's note in the back. I really am drawn to this idea of the Cascadia fault shifting and how far the destruction will go. I also live in the PNW, so this idea sucks me right in. Where is volume 2? I need to know the rest of this story.
Got to admit, I went dark when Four Dollars first showed up. I thought the worst for Ginny. Thankfully the author went a different direction. I am also interested in this world with mass destruction to the West of the Mississippi and normal life to the East. Pandemic aside, how would our country handle that kind of division?

Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All of the opinions are my own and this did not affect my review in any way.
I requested this from NetGalley because I was really intrigued by the plot and I thought this could be a new favorite. After reading it I am not blown away nor disappointed, for me this is a good middle of the road graphic novel.
In Odessa we follow three siblings as they search for their missing mother across a ruined America.
This graphic novel was really heart-wrenching and I think that everyone should give it a go. I overall really enjoyed it and it hooked me so much that I didn’t want to put it down. The writing is very natural and I think it was enough to give us all the details but it didn’t in any way feel like too much. This graphic novel game me anxiety in the best way possible, I cared for the characters, I wanted them to be okay and it was really scary to see what the world could possibly looked like after a catastrophe.
My favorite aspect of this graphic novel was the exploration of human behavior after a catastrophe, and I think it was very well portrayed.
I have conflicting opinions about the art style, I loved the art style, specifically talking about the drawings, I think they were able to perfectly capture the essence of what the book was trying to portray. However, the fact that everything was in pink was not for me, I started to hate the color and even though it sets the mood, I would have still loved to see a variety of background colors.
I really wasn’t a fan of the main character, she seemed very unlikable to me and her actions seemed very selfish. However, her brothers, I absolutely adored them, they seemed realistic and even though they were going through hell they still managed to make me laugh.
Overall, like I said there is nothing wrong with this book but there is not something amazing either. This is a solid middle of the road graphic novel. This story is full of adventure, survival, family and drama and even though I had some opinions about it I still very much enjoyed it and would still highly recommended.
p.s: I really appreciated seeing the beginning of a F/F relationship and I will definitely read the second volume to see what happens.

Spoiler
The random appearance of the love interest didn’t make any sense but I am able to let it go because even though it was unrealistic I was very sweet and considerate.Overall, like I said there is nothing wrong with this book but there is not something amazing either. Odessa was a wild ride. A ride I hope we get to finish. There were a few things I wasn’t expecting, but I’m so glad they’re there. The monochrome colors were such a good choice for this story. Also, all the lore regarding the disasters is so good.
A story about 3 siblings, Virginia, Wes and Harry as they traverse a post apocalyptic United States. Eight years ago, a major earthquake destroyed much of the Western U.S. But, for Vietnamese-American, Virginia Crane, her life changed shortly after the earthquake, when her mother left the family and never returned.
This story follows the siblings years later while they go in search of their mother and meet many other characters along the way.
I liked this book, but I didn’t love it. I expected it to be…more. The bad guys didn’t have any real reason to be bad other than the fact that they just were? Their motivations felt a little non-existent to me. There was more action at the end of the novel, so the rest felt slow moving.
The relationships in here felt like true sibling relationships. They bickered and fought just like siblings do, and they also had some heartwarming moments, which I appreciated.
The art style was okay? It wasn’t for me, but it definitely fits with the narrative of the story and the rough nature of the world that the story takes place in.
It looks like this might be the first book in a series, so there was definitely a lot of set up that is going to lead up to future plot lines. I would be interested to see where this goes.
