This book was quite a disappointment for me, I had really liked the first one "L'Affaire Henry Quebert" but this one just felt flat, the characters were hardly believable (especially the female ones, Alexandra has no personality whatsoever) but even characters such as Oncle Saul were not explored enough, for instance it does not seem really believable that Oncle Saul would start laundering money, its never really explained why other than his jealousy for Patrick Neville and to buy that stadium but its later revealed that he had to put a mortgage on his house to cover the 6 million so then what did he use the money laundering for? Same for Woody whose second crime (killing the cop) comes out as very cold blooded for a character that was never described as such. It was interesting that Marcus' perception of them would change as he aged but I still feel that for the sake of suspense and having many developments, the characters were made unbelievable.

Seems as though a lot of the prose must have got lost in translation. Was cringing at points whether the author had to bludgeon you with the point he was trying to make.

Decent storyline with enough to keep the pages turning. Disappointing follow up to The Harry Quebert Affair.
