Claire is the executive assistant and best friend of Amy, who owns First Comes Love matchmaking services. Amy’s fiancé Dex helped develop a dating app for their clients, and Amy asks Claire to join and try it out to check for bugs and user experience.
Unbeknownst to them, Dex has asked his fellow Marine Mateo to do the same, despite knowing that Mateo is moving to Germany in a few months. Mateo and Claire match and begin chatting. They’ve met several times through Amy and Dex, but since the app doesn’t allow photos until 30 days of talking, they don’t realize they’ve connected. Claire is attracted to Mateo in person, but she refuses to date a Marine due to the difficult military lifestyle.
Dex and Amy figure out that they’ve matched based on similar feedback from the app, and they clue Mateo in. He decides to hold off on revealing his identity until the 30th day.
I absolutely loved this sweet romance. Watching Mateo and Claire fall in love over messages was so sweet! Especially since online romance is so much more common now. I cannot wait for the next book in this series, because I absolutely love Jess Mastorakos’ books!!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

What I read: A Blind Date for the Marine by Jess Mastorakos
Why I picked it up: Second in a series I started and loved!
How I read it: On audio in a day at 2x speed.
What it’s about: Amy and Dec have started a new wing to their matchmaking business, an app where conversation is the focus. Participants have to communicate for 30 days before they have the ability to share photos. They each ask their friends to test different aspects as a real user. Both Claire and Mateo enter with zero expectations but they are surprised when they fall in love.
What I liked: I liked this concept around online dating, it’s different than anything I’ve seen. It was a good way for these two IRL friends to fall in love without knowing the hang ups they’d already decided were deal breakers. It left room for bravery.
What I disliked: The next one isn’t available at the library. I want to know what happens with more of this group of Marie’s.
Genre: Chaste romance, military, online dating.
Rating & Recommendation: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and sure do! You don’t have to read the first for this to make sense, but it’ll be better if you do.

I don’t know how Jess Mastorakos does it, but her books just keep getting better. I’ve read her other two military romance series, and this one is my favorite of the three.
I loved the secret identity in this one. I liked that Claire and Mateo are able to balance each other out. Mateo helped Claire realize that sometimes in order to be happy, you have to leave your comfort zone. Mateo was willing to be patient to win over Claire.
Favorite part was definitely Mateo showing up at the book store hoping to find his girl. Definitely not what he expected!
Great read! I’m excited to see what’s next!
The premise of this was so intriguing! I loved the idea of a dating app where you don't get to see pictures at first. The fact that Claire and Mateo connect both on the app and in real life is fantastic. I definitely thought Dex and Amy set it up but it's interesting that they both had asked their friends to do it without talking to each other. I felt a kinship with Claire because I too am terrified of stepping out of my comfort zone, and I too love to write but don't always share it. It was fun to see her development. And I loved that she finally found it in her to go to Germany.

Freak!! I have no idea why it’s taken me so long to read one of Jess Mastorakos’s books! This one was amazing and I have a feeling they are all going to be just as good. Seriously! I was amazed at how good it was and surprised by how much I liked it!
The writing style was great and Jess’s decision to add chat conversations between BookishDreamer and StarkRavingMad made the whole book just fun. I found myself smiling at their chat threads and even got giddy over them.

This was one of Jess’ best books so far! I loved the story. A dating app where you don’t know what the other person looks like until talk for a while? How cute! You get to know the person without judging them how they look. It turned out cute how Claire found out that Mateo was the one she was talking to.
“The guy was the epitome of tall, dark, and handsome, but with an added nerdy vibe that was basically adorable. Adorkable, even.”
Book 2 of the First Comes Love series! Claire and Mateo are best friends of Amy and Dex from Book 1, and have been secretly attracted to each other. Claire has decided to ignore her crush on Mateo since he’s moving to Germany in six months and doesn’t want to start something that wouldn’t be permanent.
Claire and Mateo have been separately asked to test out the new anonymous dating app to make sure that it’s user friendly and that there aren’t any bugs. Of course they both agree without the intention of falling for someone. Not knowing that they’re actually speaking to each other, they both start to fall for one another. What will happen when they find out their true identities? Will the spark still be there when they realized that the person that they’re in love with has been standing in front of them this whole time?
