He was frail but not weak. How Paul’s wife Lucy described him and I think it’s a completely accurate summation of the man.

While I found Paul’s writing to be a little amorphous and philosophical, his wife’s epilogue was so powerful and made such an impact.

I would have loved to have known Paul as a neurosurgeon and a writer and this book seems to be an embodiment of his life.

This was a good but sad read. In the last chapters, Kalanithi's hope for his future and the longevity of his survival gave me hope that he had survived long enough to see his daughter grow, at least a little bit. Finishing the book and learning it was published posthumously was heartbreaking. Kalanithi is eloquent and transparent about his struggles with grappling with the loss of a life he treasured right at the cusp of what should have been him thriving.

I must say. Paul's part ends on a very somber note. And then Lucy starts to talk at its a heartbreaking gut punch.

This book has some really sad moments and a lot of reflective, thoughtful moments. Glad to have read it.

I cried a LOT. This should be compulsory reading for anyone who has or may have contact with the medical profession- so, everyone.
