I had to read this for class. Garton Ash makes a good companion for this bumpy, careening ride through Central Europe in 1989-1990. I am not at all familiar with this period of history, but it was fun to be thrown in and find my own footing.

An account of the fall in communism in Eastern Europe in 1989 by a reporter who covered the events in Poland, Hungary, East Germany and Czechoslovakia. Since I am traveling to the Czech Republic soon, I found this book very enlightening about the Czech's "Velvet Revolution."
