I wanted to like this one more than I did.

This was exquisite. Pablo wants to know the truth about his family until he sees that his family is already around him. A little bit of supernatural/awe, plenty of parrots, a dog, and love. I especially love the subtle nod to the refugee crisis.

A perfectly sweet middle novel with hints of folklore and magical realism. I was trying to decide where to shelve this one at work, so I decided I just had to read it to get a sense.

Lovely, but I feel like it's one of those juvenile books that's really written for adults.

I was realllllly surprised by this! I had no idea there was a magical realism aspect, so that made it feel extra... magical because of how unexpected it was. It is a really touching and cute story that I am glad McGhee did not try to stretch into a 400 page book.

This was a beautiful story. I am a fan of magical realism anyway, but this tale of love and letting go was filled with such gentle tenderness, I know that Pablo and Birdy will stay with me for a while.

Almost halfway in and still waiting for something to happen. Also, why doesn't Pablo go to school? And the audiobook is painful. I really wish a professional reader/actress was doing the narration. It might help. I have had to request this to read, instead of listening, because I'm not sure I can listen much longer.

This was a sweet book and I really enjoyed reading it. I would recommend it.
