For reading something let's just say it, dated, about the fashion world, it is a really good book. Premiss- Teen in New York is paid and has a lifestyle of noticing "cool" or what will become cool. Add in a cute "cool queen" or innovator, a splash of mayhem, blue-bloods, espionage, intrigue, anarchy. Its a mystery book about fashion and New York. Now, I was 17 when this book came out, it would have been right up my alley. Except for the fact I knew nothing about New York, fashion, or shoes. Actually, my friends and I would "accidentally" spill paint or oils on our uniforms to be rebels, so in a way we would have been innovators, well them really. I was a trendsetter.
Overall, exciting book, I loved the part in the museum, mostly cause I love museums, but also cause I thought of "Night at the Museum " the whole time.
I continue to love Scott Westerfeld's writing style. I think I like the story from a boy's point of view more than when he narrates as a woman- female character. It seems more believable and honest.

Reminded me of Cory Doctorow, but not nearly so clever and fun. This book just seemed quite contrived to me.
I love how Scott Westerfeld has so many random facts in his novels. Even though I am thoroughly entertained by the plot, I feel that I also learn a bit along the way as his characters rant about their own personal interests...sometimes its microbiology, sometimes fashion trivia, or a bit of history. Always fun stuff.
Seventeen-year-old Hunter stalks and tracks “cool.” Or to put it better, he is a “cool hunter.” When he notices the originality of how a girl in the park ties her shoelaces, he knows he has met an Innovator. This encounter with Jen James leads to a fast-paced adventure as amateur detectives where they try to rescue a possibly kidnapped friend and attempt to unravel a plot to sabotage the consumer culture in which Hunter is an important player.

Update: After a rereading and think of this novel non-stop I've change it from a 4 star to a 5 star. Yep, that happened! ;)
I loved this novel!!! Witty, fast-paced, and unique it had me hooked the whole time, I just couldn't put it down, nor could I figure it out.
Seventeen year old Hunter is a Trendsetter a person who looks for Innovators and their latest new-to-the-world never-been-done-before fashions. He meets Jen (an Innovator & Logo Exile ) and finds himself compelled to invite her to a "tasting" or focus group on the client's newest project. When Jen says something creative at the meeting, Hunter's fellow Trendsetters and his boss (Mandy) are thrown. This one seemingly minor moment throws Hunter's world into chaos and soon he and Jen are running for their lives.
A great mystery, while at the same time a thought-provoking look at advertising and trends, So Yesterday is a fun read that will make you lulz, fall in love with the cutie Hunter, and get you thinking. I would definitely recommend this novel to just about everyone.
