Well I’m glad I didn’t read any reviews or even the inside author summary!

I went in totally blind only knowing that this was a “spin off” from the BDB series that I have loved for years.

It actually wasn’t quite a spin off because you got a POV from Rhage - 100 years ago.

I liked this addition to the BDB world but kinda bummed The Jackel ends up being Rhage’s half brother (not a spoiler - it’s literally in the books description!). I was hoping for more of a separate BDB story but just in the same universe. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the book, I was just expecting all the brothers to be nowhere in this book and they kinda were. I’m interested to see what else comes from this spin off and which other characters will get their own stories.

I keep expecting to get bored with this series, yet once I hit the halfway mark, I can't put it down.

This book was phenomenal as expected from the amazing JR Ward! So much action and intrigue packed in with a beautiful love story. I felt the tension from being in the prisoners the entire time, empathizing with the characters and wanting justice. The identity of the bad guy completely surprised me. I had someone else pegged so when the person was revealed I was shocked (which normally doesn't happen).

The only negative I would comment on is that the sleeve blurb implies a lot more involvement of the Brothers than there really is. They don't show up until the end (like last few chapters the end), which is fine if I wasn't expecting a larger role.

All in all, I can't recommend this book enough!!

I've read almost everything else J.R. Ward has written, but couldn't get in to this book for some reason. I made it halfway through before I gave up and added it to my DNF pile.

As always, the Warden delivers. I love how she continues to expand this Brotherhood. I love the Brothers. But I also love how their family continues to expand.

I hope to see more of Nyx and the Jackal in the future. This was a quick, and fun read for me. It’s fast paced and left me wanting more. I’m excited to see what happens in the next installment of this series.
