A breakneck paced horror novelette about an egomaniac who buys pet bugs that build fortresses out of sand. Very fun with a meh ending.

Incredible for a book with under 50 pages. Martin is a genius at creating incredible sci-fi settings and sci-fi plot premises and that's not talked about enough because of ASOIAF.

Yay for me! This is the first GRRM story I've read and ACTUALLY finished. (I've tried to read A Game of Thrones several times and DNF'd it several times.)

The writing was great and the worldbuilding was great. It raised some interesting theological questions about the nature of God to be sure. At times it was pessimistic but it left you at the end with a lot of questions.

It was a good read.

You can find this story in GRRM's Dreamsongs collections.

Some of this book was absolutely bonkers crazypants. Some of the stories are tolerable, one or two were boring, and I found one to be particularly bad, but some are just like the plot reinvented rails purely for the purpose of going off them. I don't even know if I liked this book, I just know I will be thinking about how nuts some of these stories are for a long time. I recommend reading it if someone is throwing it away and they give you their copy instead, which is what I did.

Sandkings totally stole the show in this collection. In the House of the Worm was another standout, but the rest just didn’t do it for me. I’d give the whole collection a 3.25*, with Sandkings getting a solid 5*.

I only read the last story as I found a PDF online, but I'm tempted to grab the few and expensive copies of this short story collection online. GRRM is a great writer regardless of genre!

Esta antología tiene relatos muy buenos e interesantes, sin embargo, hay otros que pasan a ser rellenos y se vuelven menos memorables. Aún así, lo recomiendo, ya que aunque no sean relatos de terror mantienen al lector complemente cautivado.

guess I should have known from some of the more ... unpleasant ... scenes in the Song of Ice and Fire. this is creepy as heck, and awesome.
