Great little thriller… fast moving and kept me reading to discover the ending. And although I was “sure” I knew how the story would end, I was surprised in the final chapters.

Molly Clarke disappears. Her car abandoned along the lonely highway during a dangerous storm. A note found at a nearby hotel tells her family “don’t look for me”. Molly is consumed by guilt over the accidental death of her 9 year old daughter several years before. Would she really walk away from if all?

This book is so fun and gripping. Kept me awake half the night guessing - Who is lying? Who is in an alliance? What is happening?! Then in the final chapters, as what was hidden is revealed, I wasn't disappointed. Can I say? FOR A CHANGE.

Will it win the Pulitzer? No. But for sheer nail-biting reading enjoyment? This takes it.

I feel like I'm going insane reading this. Why would people be surprised that she's come back to look for her mother when they've only been looking for a week???? Why would someone who is trying to start a new life leave behind their money, phone, car, and everything else that would help them start a new life? If you're worried about her mental state and think it might relate to why she decided to start a new life, WHY wouldn't you continue to look for her????? Why was there a charge on the credit card she shared with her husband in a nearby town that same night and it didn't come up when they searched her credit card records - only showing up when they searched his later in the book??? Why would you go with a man and continue to believe him long past the point when he's clearly fucking abducted you? Why, when you get a chance to escape, would you instead come up with a convoluted plan to get back into the cell and maybe poison the guy?? Why would you do that for a second time??????? Why, when you see your daughter outside, would you not shout at her through the hole in the window where you're being held captive? Or when you see a cop outside? Or when you see another cop outside? Why, when given access to an iPad that is sometimes connected to the internet, would you not try to use it to send a message to someone? Why would you believe and trust and confide in every creepy man in the town despite knowing that one of them clearly killed your mom? Why would you stop searching when canvassing the woods because you came across a fence??????????? Why would you come up with an insane convoluted kidnapping/murder plan to "get your daughter a new mommy" instead of simply learning to vacuum your house????? Why would a grown adult say "mommy" that much?? Why would you make coffee for your prisoner every morning?????

And don't even get me started on the twist at the end!

I am extremely happy that I was not disappointed by this book. I have been looking forward to read it since it came out. I did not read ahead other people’s reviews on it because I wanted to go in without any knowledge about what I was going to find in this new adventure. Boy I am glad I did that. Wendy Walker… can you please write more book like this??? Pretty please with cherry on top. I absolutely love this thriller that had me in suspense and at the edge of my seat the whole time. I freaking love when I am lost in a book and cannot figure out who the culprit is. When I cannot predict anything, is when I am enjoying a thriller even more. That feeling of not knowing what’s going to happen it’s amazing. Only in books, of course. I was even bitting my nails while reading it and I haven’t done that since I was in elementary school. This family has gone through terrible terrible things. Things that would destroy any human being. I was amazed by how strong Nicole was the whole book, how she didn’t gave up looking for her mom, even when the whole town seemed to be lying to her face and there was no one to trust. She was terribly sorry for all the bad things she said to her mom, she loved her and wanted her back. Her resilience is admirable. I recommend this book to my thriller-loving-followers 10/10.

Riveting, heart aching story of what could have been. Molly is trying to hold on to whatever is left of her family after her youngest died in a car accident. On a horrible night of a storm, Molly went missing on her way home from visiting her son. Two weeks after her mother went missing, Nicole went back to the town that her mother was last seen. This time because of a tip from a woman who said she saw Molly that unfaithful night. However, the town as many secrets and no one is to be trusted.

There are mysteries throughout the book. It definitely kept my reading and wanting more. Not only was the town a mystery but also Molly’s family. I don’t feel like I got a full picture of the family. Molly’s husband where about the night of her disappearance was never explained; especially when Nicole question her dad in that last phone call. His part of the story never wrapped up. Molly and her husband's relationship was the focal point of her emotions when she was missing; However, it was never explained at the end. The ending has a twist I never saw coming. However, the explanation of the twist was weak. The protagonist could have stayed away. The reason to bring this person back was to have the twist; in which I thought made for a weak ending.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This author always has the most crazy twists. Read this book pretty quickly; once I got into it, it was hard to put down. I feel like the twist at the end was a little far-fetched but still really enjoyed it. Great, suspenseful read.

Sorry but this one just wasn't for me. I found much of the storyline pretty far fetched, figured out the bad guy too early and didn't find myself empathizing with the characters. No point dwelling on it...onto the next one! 2.5 stars rounded up.
