challenging dark emotional informative mysterious sad tense medium-paced

I knew that the authors were associated with weird New Jersey, but this was a really comprehensive covering of a murder that was never really solved. I think that some issues could have been handled more tactfully, but it was also the seventies, so the narrative may have been representing biases that were present in the time of the murder. Really, all of the cases in the area mentioned are uniquely tragic. It feels good to remember people who died so that they cannot be forgotten, but it doesn't feel nice to wonder what might have happened to them, and neither is knowing that you likely will never know.
