Satisfying in so many ways!

Aminata weaves us through the story of her life and sheds so much light on parts of slave history that is so rarely taught here in the US.

Excellent story, but it felt rushed in places and dragged a bit in others. I think the author was trying to cover too much time in too few pages, perhaps. I still enjoyed the story and absolutely loved and admired Aminata.

This book by Lawrence Hill is one that will stay with me always. His protagonist, Amanita was a strong woman character, which I always like in a book. The story of her life as a young child of eleven taken from her village into the slave trade up to the time she was an older woman was so well written. Lawrence was able to bring her character to life in such a believable way. I learned a lot I didn't know through his historical accounts. Human nature is not always a pretty picture and this is one account in history that is perplexing and sad to me. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

This was immediately one of my top reads of the year, so far.

The writing style great. It had a great flow, pace, and it was super easy for me to follow.

I almost read it in one day, because I couldn’t put it down.

Even though this one does have long chapters, I never found myself getting bored.

This story will stay with me for a long time.

Audio: also 5 stars. Narrator was excellent. Easy to understand, great emotion.
