I really like how the Constables and police officers investigating the crime just seem so resigned to the fact that Miss Marple knows everything. It's good to know that her abilities are recognized in such a way.

The body of a dead girl is found in the library of an older couple. There are only two people with motives, and the case gets more and more complicated until Miss Marple is called for help by the police to solve the crime.

I can never guess the killer's identity in a Christie novel! Ever! Just when I think I've got it, I realize she's dropped too many red herrings, making me think I've figured it out, but it's just a ruse, so I guess another character but get stumped, trying to figure out their motive, and then I doubt myself again, and we're back to square one. I shake my fist at Agatha Christie and scream, 'Curse you!,' but I mean it in the best possible way.

Ashamed to say this is the first Christie I have read, having always defaulted to the rather good ITV adaptations.
Thoroughly enjoyed it and now desperate to go to Devon and see the newly refurbed museum!

Considering that the book is now 83 years old, there was some relatively old fashioned language and sensibilities that may not be as modern as I’m used to - which is as I expected. However, I was blown away by the actual mystery itself - I was completely shocked by the reveal of the killer and very pleasantly surprised!
There’s a reason that Agatha Christie is as renowned an author as she is!

Yet again Agatha Christie took me by surprise, by the end I was so sure I’d figured out who the murderer was, and I was wrong - but I’m glad I was wrong haha!! I enjoyed this more than the murder at the vicarage, I was definitely more invested in this one

I love me some Agatha Christie but this one was just okay. My mind wasn't completely blown and that's alright. Very cosy mystery.

Probably my favorite of the three Agatha Christie's I've read so far this year, and one of my favorites full-stop. This is my first Marple -- I tried Murder at the Vicarage last year, but last year was not good for me, reading-wise, so I didn't get more than a few pages in before giving up (planning to return to it later). And while I definitely missed Hercule Poirot and his little grey cells and method, I did like Miss Marple quite a lot and found the story engrossing. I loved how much clothing and make-up played a role in this particular mystery -- the victim's white dress, her varnished nails (don't worry, that description is right up at the beginning, not a spoiler) -- especially having just read a book on the history of glamour. I didn't guess the killer -- no surprise there -- though I felt that with this one (unlike with The Murder on the Links) if I'd paused and written down the suspects and the facts I might have done it. But it was so good I wanted to keep reading through!
