I love me some Agatha Christie but this one was just okay. My mind wasn't completely blown and that's alright. Very cosy mystery.

Probably my favorite of the three Agatha Christie's I've read so far this year, and one of my favorites full-stop. This is my first Marple -- I tried Murder at the Vicarage last year, but last year was not good for me, reading-wise, so I didn't get more than a few pages in before giving up (planning to return to it later). And while I definitely missed Hercule Poirot and his little grey cells and method, I did like Miss Marple quite a lot and found the story engrossing. I loved how much clothing and make-up played a role in this particular mystery -- the victim's white dress, her varnished nails (don't worry, that description is right up at the beginning, not a spoiler) -- especially having just read a book on the history of glamour. I didn't guess the killer -- no surprise there -- though I felt that with this one (unlike with The Murder on the Links) if I'd paused and written down the suspects and the facts I might have done it. But it was so good I wanted to keep reading through!

I knew there was something off, I KNEW IT!!!! Regardless, Miss Marple is delightful and smart and I could read about her adventures all day long..

Reading for research - I really didn't expect it to take me this long to get through a book this short. And I began to lose track of everyone. Maybe if I try some of her newer books, I'll have an easier job.

The mystery in this was entertaining, and there were so many likely culprits which is always fun. Nonetheless, this is my third Miss Marple book and I was left with the same feeling that I had when I read the other two, I wish Miss Marple showed up more and not only occasionally and at the end when she appears with all the answers to everything, which she pulled out of thin air.

Summary: A woman's body is found in the library of Miss Marple's neighbors. Can she solve this mix of hotel workers, show business, and simple country folk and clear the neighbors's good name?
Thoughts: I actually figured out part of the murder! Not who and not why but part of the how! I'm so excited and that accounts partly for my enjoyment of this book in preference to yesterday's Murder at the Vicarage. Another part is its shorter length which meant there was less time for boring village conversations and getting to the point much faster. I would definitely recommend this mystery as an introduction to Miss Marple and I love the pink cover of the new edition.
Overall: 4 out of 5-largely because I figured out part of the murder.
