ARC Review
This was my first book of Victoria's and I'm in love! This was a emotional and heavy read, but I wouldn't want it any other way.
Steven is the King of Wall Street. He's a lonely soul that's accepted that he doesn't have his parents love at a young age, but still strives to be worthy of them. In order to protect his heart he's closed off himself to emotions and drowns himself with work.
Grace is a strong, stubborn, smart and independent(a little too independent) young women that just landed an internship at one of the top investment firm on Wall Street. Coming from a more than humble background Grace is in dire need of the job offer after her internship, but unfortunately due to internal affairs in the company she's not offered one. Which sets off a series of events that causes her to leave Steven's life.
Grace sees past Steven's closed off facade and recognizes the broken part of him. She wants nothing more than to save Steven from himself. But in order to save her family she lets him go. 9 months later they cross paths once again and this time Steven is determined not to let go.
This book had to at the edge of my seat! The plot twists in this book nearly gave me a heart attack, but the HEA at the end was completely worth it!

When Hearts Ignite is so good and worth reading. This was my first read by Victoria Lum, and I am obsessed.
Steven is a possessive, controlling finance billionaire. He doesn't do relationships and doesn't do emotional connections. He harbors a lot of personal pain and childhood heartbreak. Underneath it all, he is supportive, has a great heart, and loves hard. Grace is a ray of sunshine. She is positive, caring, kind, independent, intelligent, and a go-getter. As a couple, they are a force to be reckoned with, and I loved witnessing their development. They both needed each other and helped each other heal. Their relationship was so passionate, and the chemistry was off the charts.
This story had me locked in from the first page. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and their different lifestyles. Everything was handed to Steven on a silver platter, while Grace had a more challenging start. The development of other relationships (friends and family) was also outstanding. There was witty banter, fun/sexy karaoke, and humor woven into this workplace romance. The spice was terrific! Steven made me WEAK! The spicy scenes are perfection. I love Steven!
There were twists and turns that threw me for a loop. I thought I had things figured out, but I was wrong. When Hearts Ignite is so entertaining, and I am so glad I went into it blind. I am happy this is the start of a series, and I am excited about the stories of the other characters (looking at you, Ryland). I highly recommend this book and can't wait to read more from Victoria Lum.

I really wanted to love this one, but parts of it fell really flat for me. I adored Grace and how independent and driven she was, but mostly just her ability to have the time of her life without spending a ton of money. This was a slow burn and up until the point Steven and Grace were together I loved it. Once they were finally together, it went from lust to love a little too fast for me. The story line did kept me interested for the most part and I definitely didn’t see that twist at the end, which had me throwing my kindle (IYKYK).

What a way to tell a story! Steven and Grace have a very special story. Steven is the Wall Street billionaire and Grace is the intern who is desperate for the full time position to help her family. She is a hard worker and her ideas get her noticed by Steven. They strike up an unlikely friendship. They might be total opposites but they have this ability to understand each other and push each other more than anyone else has. At the end of her internship, Grace takes a hit that snowballs into a set of terrible things to happen that lead Grace on a different path. Unfortunately this means Grace disappears without a word and Steven is left not understanding what happened.
Months later, fate brings Steven back to Grace and he is even more confused on what happened to her and why she is where she is. Steven isn’t giving up though, their connection is too strong for him to let her go. Their love for each other is enchanting. They have to fight hard to be together. Along the way there are plot twists that will keep your heart rate up and have you holding your kindle real tight.

"When Hearts Ignite" wow, did it ignite something in me! From the get-go, I had this hunch that Steven was going to be my absolute favorite leading man from Victoria Lum's books, and let me tell you, I was not disappointed. He's got this charisma that just oozes from the pages, not to mention the way he handles everything with that billionaire finesse. His control? Oh boy, it's like he's got the world on a string until Grace walks into his life. He was also lonely, isolated, and totally thrown into work until Grace.. See two sides to every coin!
And speaking of Grace, can we just take a moment to appreciate her? She's a breath of fresh air, and I found myself rooting for her from the very beginning. The way Lum sets up their relationship is just so spot-on. There's this perfect balance of space and intimacy, and the banter between them? Pure gold. Steven's dirty mouth and the way he calls Grace "darling" had me SWOONING over him!
Now, let's talk about that twist. I would be lying if I said I didn't see it coming but Lum threw in this unexpected curveball that had me reeling!!!!! A twist on a twist if you will! I won't spoil it, but let me just say, hold onto your hats because it's a wild ride.
Overall, "When Hearts Ignite" was a great read. Lum knows how to keep you hooked from start to finish, and I love how this book sets itself apart from the rest of the series. Trust me, once you dive into it, you'll see exactly why it stands out.

When Hearts Ignite (The Orchid) by Victoria Lum is a contemporary romance novel. This book was a well written billionaire boss and employee romance novel. To me it’s sometimes the dream relationship girls have when they leave college and start off in the business world (I said some). What I really like about this book is it reads and feels different than the typical office romance. The plot is different, characters, everything. I really like that and if you want something different I definitely say read it.
Grace is an intern just starting out and Steven is her boss. He usually does not pay attention to newer staff but there is just something about the super sweet Grace he can not get out of his system. They soon become friends and so much more. Of course this leads to drama and everything else.
I really liked this story and found it different from others. Refreshing!
