Great illustrations but the poem itself didn't flow as smoothly as it could have.

This was a cute book but I’m not sure who the intended audience is supposed to be. For a children’s book, I don’t see the poetry resonating with a child. Perhaps this is more a book for the parents, specifically fathers, capturing the relationship between H and their son.

Recommended for the illustrations; for illustrated books / picture books collectors. Story rather for parents, not their children; also the poetry is not very well written. All the stars awarded towards the illustrator, not the author.

Since I work in a library, I read this book to see if this is something that I would recommend to my patrons. However, I have read poems by 5th graders that were better than this. The only reason this book got published is because of who the author is. This was a poem written from a mother to her husband about being a father, so I'm not sure if this is something a kid would want to hear. Honestly, it was just boring. My coworker was ready to throw it in the trash because the "poetry" was so bad. Seriously, how did the editor let the word 'lone slip in there? This book gets one star for the illustrations which turned out to be the highlight. Definitely would not recommend this.

A wonderful and diverse children's book. A must read for all children.

I read this with an 8 year old who gave it 5 stars ✨ they thoroughly enjoyed it.
I think it’s okay, there were some questionable stylistic writing choices, but I really liked the variety of words used. - 3.5 -

I actually teared up while reading this. That surprised me. The illustrations are lovely. I don’t think children will get much out of it though.
