This one is quite strange, it is about a woman who is going through a difficult mental health episode and is taken to an institution to recover.

I don't have much to say about it, some of the writing was interesting but it never gave me anything impressive or exciting in any way. 

Overall I'm very underwhelmed by it so that's all I can say.

This book is so cleverly written. The plot is slow paced, yes, but you will find yourself on the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens next. This book’s plot doesn’t just happen or unfold, but it evolves throughout the book like it has its own mind. The descriptions and metaphors are unusual and provocative.

I wonder if this was a poor translation. There were so many similes using the same formula page after page after page.

Very good. Hard to get into at first, but very good read. Surprisingly the main character losing her mind wasn't the most disturbing part of the book. Very compelling description of mental illness. Excited to read more from this author!

 Wie schon die Kopenhagen Trilogie von Tove Ditlevsen habe ich auch diesen Roman von ihr als Hörbuch gehört, weil Dagmar Manzels Art die Texte zu lesen mir so gefällt und so gut zu Ditlevsens Stimme passt. Im Gegensatz zu ihren Memoiren konnte mich Gesichter jedoch nicht vollständig überzeugen. Der aus einfachen Sätzen, feinen bis poetischen Beobachtungen bestehende Schreibstil, der mich in der Trilogie so gefesselt hat, konnte hier nicht die gleiche Wirkung erreichen. Der Anfang des Buches, der erzählt, wie die Protagonistin Lise sich in ihrer eigenen Wohnung immer weiter von der Realität entfernt war so vielversprechend und die Beschreibungen ihrer Wahrnehmung der Gesichter so einprägsam, dass ich gebannt weitergelesen habe. Ab ihrer Einweisung in eine Klinik fokussiert sich die Geschichte aber in großen Teilen auf eine halluzinierte Version von Lises Haushälterin und deren Weltanschauung, von der sie die Protagonistin überzeugen möchte. Die Fragen, die dadurch aufgeworfen werden, fand ich leider nicht so interessant/relevant und dadurch, dass gewisse Überlegungen sich im Kreis drehen wurden andere Aspekte überschattet. Insgesamt ist es trotzdem ein durchaus lesenswerter Bericht, der sehr nah und genau die Empfindungen einer Frau die eine Psychose durchlebt wiedergibt und starke autobiographische Züge aufweist.
