In the vein of Adelaide and Normal People, this book felt like a true quarter-life crisis account. I listened to the audiobook, so the Irish narration added much to the sense of place. I’m taking a star off for some of the more graphic scenes, since I’m becoming prudish in my old age.
fast-paced

This one left me feeling a bit... distant.
Maybe it’s the season I’m in.
Maybe it’s that I’ve been reading such deeply felt, gorgeously written books lately-but this just didn’t reach me the way I wanted it to.
It skimmed the surface of something rich-young love, complicated friendships, identity-but never fully dropped in.

Still, I did love the setting (Ireland always tugs at my heart), and there was something familiar in the bones of the story.
It took me back to that blurry, beautiful era of early adulthood-when you’re working jobs with friends who feel like family, when everything feels both dramatic and tender.
I could feel the ghost of that time in my own life, but maybe I’m just too far gone from it now to really settle into this story.

Good? Yes.
Memorable? For me, not quite.
But I can see why others might fall into it and feel seen.

I loved it. Entertaining, sharp, and funny. Everyone is lovable and flawed and realistic. The ending is a bit of a fairytale but I was still happy to see it.

3.5/5

A funny coming-of-age story with friendship, love, and a whole bunch of delicious commentary on class, positions of power, money, and the politics of reproductive rights. I really enjoyed this since the author is genuinely funny -- not in a stitches-in-my-sides laughter but rather the short, surprised, I-know-what-you-mean kind of laughter.
