This is a very well done sci-fi short story. I enjoyed it thoroughly. It's super suspenseful and the ending is great. The world-building is smooth and the characters are likeable and interesting and it's easy to just jump right in to this story. It's short and free and definitely recommended. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Solid story, great characterisation. You can get a great feeling for all the characters in a short space, plus the plot holds together very well. I could definitely see this as a TV episode!
