Enjoyed finishing up this series. I skimmed many descriptive passages to get to the "good parts" and found some of it a bit complex but it was OK

i already know these books are forever going to hold a special place in my heart.
emma, michael, and kate’s stories all collide in this finale and it was such an adventure. the stakes were high, the emotions were through the roof, and my butt was the edge of the seat.
did the best character really need to die though? minus a half star for that alone

Excellent wrap-up to a fine trilogy! There's a nice balance of misery and happily-ever-after, something so many children's authors struggle with. In this, enough goes wrong that it's not like "yeah, right, things are never that good" but neither is it "Ahhhhh! I have to go throw myself off a cliff it's so miserable!"

This book as an ending to the series was amazing! I especially loved the humor and even the bawling-my-eyes-out parts. I would recommend this series to all fantasy lovers!
Spoiler
Rafe's death made me cry, it was so, so, so unfair. I mean, the world could have been saved some other way, this is MAGIC here people ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. (Ok, I didn't really mean that.)But NO, Rafe HAD to die, and to make it even sadder, he died saving Kate because he loved her. Wasn't that the whole point of the book? How love is so important? WHY COULDN'T HAVE THAT LOVE LIKE SAVED HIM OR SOMETHING? Poor Kate. Poor Rafe, with his beautiful emerald green eyes. :( Btw, extremely surprised (in a good way) when Beetles and Jake came back as old men. I would've liked to see a reunion between Beetles and Jake and Rafe, just to see what they would've said to each other. No doubt something about opening a shop of some kind. Last note- I thought that Michael's and Wilamena's breakup was very sudden. Did anybody else think that? After all they'd been through, they decided that they were better off as friends? I wasn't as impressed with this book as I was of the others in the series. However it was mostly satisfying end to the series. Still a lot of great adventure and the characters all grew in maturity. Would really suggest the whole series to fantasy adventure fans. Even if you're an adult this is still a good series.
