The first half of the story was extremely frustrating because of all the misunderstandings. I really wanted to slap the hero, Alejandro, with a brick! He was very controlling, prideful and unwilling to believe anything the heroine, Jemima, said. So half the time I was left feeling sorry for her. How do you enter in a marriage with that amount of pride and stubbornness?!
The second half of the story was where the story started to pick up. There were so many secrets that Alejandro and Jemima were keeping from each other but at the same time, they were both put between a rock and a hard place. Finally when everything came to light, it was as if everything was able to fall into place.
Overall, I do think this was a good depiction of a deteriorating marriage. And I really enjoyed seeing the main characters give their marriage a second chance. Alejandro's development as a character made me appreciate him more in the end and I like that Jemima became less meek. They had sizzling chemistry and it was nice to see that blossom into a beautiful romance. Their kid, Alfie, was also definitely one of the highlights of this story!
If you don't like stories that are based on misunderstandings then steer clear of this one! I can see how readers may find Jemima's Secret very frustrating.

This was a rollercoaster HP. I didn't love this book by any stretch. In fact, I felt like I was hate-reading it. Hating the characters but unable to put it down... so a typical HP? Both MCs contributed to the breakdown of the marriage but the H's belief that his wife was having an affair with his brother was the straw that broke the camel's back. We see most of the plot from the h's POV so her see-sawing emotions and thoughts illustrate how immature, emotional, and insecure she is and how that directly affected her behavior. The H had trust issues up the wazoo and didn't seem interested in the h as a person beyond a sex toy. No one deserves to be cheated on but it's easy to see how cheating does happen when you have a partner like him. He never communicated with her, minimized her feelings, and ignored her except for sex. I didn't blame her for wanting to bash her brains in when trying to talk with him. He was a stubborn a**.
Despite the hate-reading, there was one thing LG included in this book that I did like in the sense that it gave a bit more power back to the h. When they first started dating, the H would see, and presumably have sex with, other women.
Long before Alejandro had shocked her with his proposal of marriage, he had put her through months of dating hell by not phoning when he said he would, by canceling meetings last minute and by seeing other women and getting photographed with them.
When she confronted him about it, he said "Babes, I'm a man and I don't want to be tied down." So she pulled back from their relationship, which was unconsummated, and started socializing and dating casually. But little Alejandro had a mini-man meltdown when he realized she was seeing someone else "which had made it perfectly clear that, while he expected her to share him, he was not prepared to share her.” Love a double standard.
Thanks to LG for including this line in HPLandia: Saying no to sex while he still had other women in his bed had seemed to be common sense rather than a form of manipulation.

For what it was, it wasn't that bad. I read this book straight through in 1 day, which is rare for me with Harlequin books.
