shout out to Mme Theriault who uploaded this to youtube. there’s nothing more humbling than struggling your way through a children’s book, but now i feel well equipped to take on France. from what i could understand, this was a really sweet story and i’m excited to follow mademoiselle charlotte on her next adventure

Reading this to 2nd graders!
Trying to get them to use their imagination...
To read books without pictures...
:D
Didn't work. Maybe next year.

Mary Poppins / Mr Majeika-esque first story of an unusual teacher
When their teacher leaves to have a baby, one class looks with anticipation to see who the new teacher is going to be... and they are not disappointed.
Miss Charlotte is a 'free spirit', who talks to a pebble, tells fantastical stories and above all makes lessons FUN. Though the headteacher is less than impressed...
This reminded me of Majeika, though Miss Charlotte is not magic per se, she wins her pupils hearts with her unqiue self. She also helps the students enjoy school and work together more.
I found some of the language a little awkward, you can hear that it has been translated at times and a few times I had o reread as some sentences didn't make perfect sense or follow on. There are also lots of French-Canadian names that my son found unusual but gave us a good talking point as to how names differ around the world.
We enjoyed it, lots of quirky school escapades and short chapters made it a perfect bedtime read.
One for ages 6-10.
With thanks to Alma Books for the sample reading copy.
