This is HBO level drama! The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because it can be a bit tedious at times as there is a story, within a story, within a story. I had no idea what this book was about initially I was truly surprised at the twists and turns throughout. Shocks and surprises down to the very last pages kept me on the edge of my seat. My favorite read so far this year.

As the book went on I found myself getting more absorbed into the story, and by the end I just had to read the next page.
I was a bit frustrated in the beginning, because of the structure of the book. It seemed like I was reading two, random, unconnected stories, but it made sense by the end.
While I got invested in the book, I would say that nothing much really happens till the final third, and a huge plot-twist doesn’t appear to the final few pages (and it comes out of nowhere)!

Old English is a bit hard to read in my opinion if you’re not a native speaker. So, no. I can’t be really bothered. I tried but I read 10 pages in 30 minutes and that’s just not it.

ah, sweet gothic blasphemy.
If you're going to read this, definitely look for a copy based on the first edition of 1796 -- seems Lewis later made revisions to avoid charges of aforementioned blasphemy.
Also, he was only 20 years old, and a goddamn member of parliament, when he wrote this.

Interesting book and actually a bit shocking still! I can't imagine how people felt when they read it when it came out in 1840's!
