really wish that
old tom was *actually* a demon
lowkey but overall and intriguing read. the start was a lil rough to figure out the cast and i felt a little underwhelmed with the ending in comparison to 7 1/2 Deaths but otherwise enjoyed the read!

I love a good fast paced mystery novel where I genuinely have no clue what is going to happen next. This author can write a sharp lean story full of well fleshed out characters and I'll definitely be keeping an eye on whatever he puts out next.

A arbitrary star got knocked off for the kind of too neat/tidy Scooby-Doo esque summation but that's just me being tickedy tackidy I'm sure. Great stuff here, read it. Dark modern Sherlock Holmes meets Agatha Christie in a (somehow) more British package.

Sherlock Holmes on the High Seas

It was a slow start but the third act really made up for it and I didn't see the resolution coming.

This novel reminded me of a mix of Sherlock Holmes meets Hallowe’en Party by Agatha Christie on a ship. I enjoyed the journey through author took us to solve the nefarious plot, however, I think the ending was rushed. The easy going nature acceptance of the plot twist was too quick after how much of the book we invested to solving the mystery. 4/5 stars.

I enjoyed the mystery and that's what Mr. Turton wants I think. But....but....I've been such a fan and devotee of Patrick O'Brian for so long that I couldn't suspend my disbelief. Operating a ship in the 1600s is not what this book is about nor should it be the focus but....but.....

The 7-1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle is definitely on my reading list.
