I loved this book. It’s scary, but in a creepy and highly unsettling way. The main female character is very complex and well written, and her very complex relationships with other characters in the story are also very well written. I like how the writer sets up the story, it makes you hang on to every word she writes. This book has obviously had a lot of thought put into its pacing and story. If you want to read a ghost story that centres on relationships and characters, is well paced and very spooky, then this might be for you.

I think I would’ve liked this book a lot more had I not watched the TV show first. This book and the TV show on Netflix are very different which left me feeling disappointed. Nonetheless this was still a nice and eerie quick read. Also haunted house literature where the main character is metaphorically consumed by the house will always have my full heart 💖💖.

I really liked this play. Reading it and seeing it in my mind's eye already gave me the creeps, I can only imagine seeing it live.

I enjoyed the characters and how easily they slipped into each other's lives. They felt fairly genuine and dimensional. The fact that the relationships can be played in more than one way also has me intrigued. Nice options for the climate of your community. The only time I felt the characters were wrong was the introduction of Mrs. Montague and Arthur. While Arthur didn't bother me, Mrs. Montague's attitude was so stark in comparison to the rest of the cast, and I feel like her role added nothing to the plot.

I do feel like there is a fourth act missing, but not being familiar with any iteration of The Haunting of Hill House, this may be an excellent reflection of the actual text from which the play is adapted. I do like the slight ambiguity of the final scene, though. The fact that there are questions left unanswered and the fact that Hill House hasn't claimed its last victim.

Haunting of Hill House lured me into fascination before I could fully realize how enraptured I was- not unlike the book's protagonist, Eleanor, whose perception may waver from one moment to another but is drawn all the same to her fateful conclusion. It's easy to see why Hill House has gone on to influence countless other horror stories and its own adaptations, a powerful tale I will not soon forget. I found a little piece of myself inside this house and I will not be surprised if I find it leaves its mark on me as well.
