I don't usually write reviews but this was absolutely amazing. I don't want to spoil anything but it's NOT a retelling, this is before the main story. The telling of her step-sisters and how they came to be so cruel. How it shows how manipulative and abusive a mother can be without even putting a finger on them and how that will effect them for the rest of their lives. I won't say more, but I continue to see how great Disney books are.

I really enjoyed the Wicked Ones and it's take on the original Cinderella Story! This books features and discusses trauma well and found this added a new layer of depth and dimension to the original story.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me an arc!
I love retellings of fairy tales, and I especially love the Ugly Stepsisters. I rooted for these two throughout the entire book. I longed for Anastasia to find true love and for Drizella to become more than her mother had planned for her. I also loved that the story didn't center around Ella, as I feel like she would have probably overpowered their stories.
That ending though? I refuse to accept it as canon and will be pretending it didn't happen. I have the sads.
