This book was a really entertaining read. This book largely occurs in the underworld of the Empire about a decade before the events of the original trilogy. That underworld is utterly grim but the characters that Crispin populates it with are fascinating to observe. Some places and planets which are familiar appear for fleeting pages, such as a brief hiatus in Alderaan. Other new worlds and planets are introduced in impeccable detail. Crispin's world building is fantastical while at the same time utterly believable. Honestly this is simply an all round great Star Wars adventure.

I really enjoyed this read, I thought the writing was very engaging and I thought the story was really compelling!! I felt like the characters and story kind of dragged near the end, around the 2/3 mark. I would’ve really liked to see more female character development, they felt very two dimensional. Also, the main relationship that took place throughout felt very hollow and empty. I would’ve liked to see the characters fleshed out more in general. Overall a pretty enjoyable read, and I hope to finish the trilogy!
